IF you’re afraid of heights this may not be for you...

A Down Syndrome support group based in Westonzoyland is aiming to raise vital funds by challenging those with an adventurous streak to abseil from the top of the Westonzoyland Village Church tower on June 7.

It promises to be a great day out and abseilers are being encouraged to bring along families and friends to support them. Wendy O’Carroll, Ups & Downs South West founder and chief executive, is taking on the vertigoinducing event herself and said: “It’s going to be a real challenge for me but I’m really looking forward to it.

“Westonzoyland is where our office is based and it’s renowned for having a particularly high church tower.

“We’re very grateful that we have been allowed to use the tower for abseiling.”

The charity is seeking to boost its coffers before their lottery funding finishes so they can continue their work.

Wendy added: “Our Big Lottery funding runs out this year and we really need people to get behind us if we are going to continue supporting the 500 families who have a child with Down syndrome living in the South West.”
