TODAY will see the British public take to the polls to vote in what is predicted to be the closest fought General Election in decades.

The 92 polling stations will be open until 10pm tonight as voters choose who they want to be in power for the next five years.

The Bridgwater and West Somerset results are expected to be in around 4am after which the people of Bridgwater will know who will be representing them in Parliament.

The Bridgwater public will also be voting in the Sedgemoor District Council elections where the Conservatives will look to maintain a significant majority.

Currently the Tories hold 31 of the 48 seats across Sedgemoor while Labour hold 13 and the Liberal Democrats and Independent councillors holding two each.

Voters will also be choosing who they want to see on Bridgwater Town Council with Labour currently controlling 14 of the 16 wards.
