A MUM from Bridgwater has been recognised at the Police and Crime Commissioner's Pride Awards for the contribution she has made to the Hamp community.

Tammie Daniells, 37, was given the award after setting up a children’s playgroup in Hamp as well arranging activity groups for youngsters throughout school holidays.

Speaking to The Mercury, Tammie said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to get the award.

“I really enjoy running the groups and it brings the whole community together.”

Tammie, who has four children and three step-children, initially became involved after speaking to other mums in the area.

She said: “I spoke to a lot of other parents and they all said we need another group of the children in Hamp and it just went from there.

“I started a group which proved popular and then went on to arrange more activity groups in the summer holidays.

“It started off as something quite small and just grew into something really big and fun.”

However, the homemaker says she couldn’t have done it without the support of the rest of her family.

Tammie said: “My husband, Paul, has been there to help and support me when I needed it and my children are always willing to come along to the groups and help out.

“As well as benefiting the children of Hamp, it’s actually brought us all closer together as a family, too.”

Cllr Leigh Redman, ward member for Bridgwater South, was quick to pay tribute to the tireless mum whose work has directly benefitted residents in his community.

He said: “Tammie is such an important asset to our community in Hamp. “She has organised many events for Hamp Community Association, Holy Trinity and ReCreation.

“She gives her time freely and has made many youngsters’ days with the events she has put together.

“I am so pleased her commitment to the Hamp community has been recognised and look forward to working with her on events in the future.”
