CELEBRATIONS to mark the 500th year of Westonzoyland got off to an illuminating start with a lantern parade on Saturday night.
Youngsters from the village paraded through the streets with their home-made lanterns on a procession which finished at St Mary’s Church.
The event was the first of Zoyfest500 which will see the village holding a series of events and festivities throughout the year.
Thelma Milbank, who has helped organise Zoyfest 500, said: “It was a great evening – we had around 100 lanterns for the parade.
“The children all had a wonderful time with the lanterns and we had some big ones spelling out ‘Zoyfest’ which looked really good.
“We moved the parade to the Saturday instead of the Friday because of the weather forecast and in the end the weather was brilliant.”
