NATIONAL bird nestbox week proved popular with Bridgwater shoppers.

Over 1,300 people took part in the activities at EDF Energy’s visitor centre in the Angel Place Shopping Centre.

The week was part of a national awareness campaign organised by the British Trust for Ornithology to encourage people to put nestboxes up in their gardens to enhance biodiversity and conservation of birds and wildlife.

Fun activities for children included making model binoculars and paper birds in the visitor centre.

The highlight for many was the chance to see birds of prey brought along by Secret World Wildlife including owls and a falcon.

Sue Butler, EDF Energy visitor centre tour guide, said: “It was a fantastic week at the visitor centre and great to see people of all ages taking an interest in wildlife.”

Roger Smith, Angel Place Shopping Centre manager, said: “Not only do these type of events raise awareness of important issues, they also add an extra special atmosphere to the centre.

It was a wonderful week and I would like to thank Secret World.”
