HAYGROVE School is due to receive Government funding under a recently announced programme.
The Priority School Building Programme Phase 2 will help to improve some of the older parts of the Durleigh Road site in Bridgwater.
The school says it will now be in a position to continue to improve its buildings and facilities, following on from recent refurbishment projects which have provided an enhanced library and learning support area, updated food technology kitchens, new art and design facilities and improved teaching rooms for humanities, maths and English.
Deputy head teacher Brian Scowcroft told the Mercury: “We are proud of our school and our buildings are steeped in history, but we are delighted that the Government has recognised that it’s time to update some aspects of our accommodation so the school facilities can meet the needs of today’s generation of students.
“This is all good news for Haygrove School, but we do recognise that other schools in the Bridgwater area have not been so fortunate and are in urgent need of additional funding to maintain their accommodation.
“We hope the relevant funding bodies will do everything in their power to support these schools too.”
As yet the full details of the funding allocation and the timeframe for the improvements are unknown.
The school says it is looking forward to working with the Education Funding Agency to agree how the improvements can take place.
