STUDENTS at Bridgwater College enjoyed a day on Exmoor learning about plants and vegetation.
The group of Level 3 Countryside Management students attended the awareness day, organised by Plantlife, an organisation which aims to raise the profile and beauty of wild flowers, plants and fungi.
Students braved wet weather to visit Horner Woods National Nature Reserve and learn about lichen from Plantlife project manager Rachel Jones.
Alan Sinclair, lecturer at Bridgwater College, said: “The Project being run by Plantlife is an ideal opportunity for students to raise their awareness and identification skills of lichens, both from an individual level, and to understand the wider Atlantic woodland habitats and ecology.”
Student Kevin Dixon said: “It was a fascinating day out for the group, and despite the heavy rain we learned useful identification techniques relating to an often forgotten plant group.”
