A TRAIL of damage was left across Bridgwater town centre in a series of vandalism incidents last week.

The town’s library, the JobCentre and a car dealership were targeted in the attacks which caused damage worth thousands of pounds.

Windows at Bridgwater Library in Binford Place were smashed on Tuesday evening.

And at the Job Centre Plus building in North Gate, 15 ground-floor windows were smashed and the entrance to the building damaged.

At Rowcliffes Garage in East Quay, ten cars were damaged.

Speaking about the incident at Bridgwater Library, a spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “We are aware of an incident where some windows were broken and some other minor damage caused.

“This was all fixed within 24 hours, so there was no impact on the availability of the service.”

Joseph James Brown, who also goes by the name of Stuart Brown, was arrested by police the following day in connection with the incidents.

He was subsequently charged with five counts of criminal damage as well as theft of a hammer and a pair of gloves.

Mr Brown, 29, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody and is set to appear in court on December 29.
