PUPILS, staff and volunteers have come together at Somerset Bridge Primary School to plant 400 new trees to mark the centenary of the First World War.

The school received the trees after applying for a pack from the Woodland Trust and decided to plant a First World War Memorial Woodland.

Deputy head teacher Tracey Harrington said: “In years to come, children will have a quiet place to sit and think as well as an area for a forest school.

“The children have absolutely loved going out and getting stuck in with shovels and sticks.

“We hope the weather will be kind to us so that we can continue to plant the trees in the coming days.”
