THE number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in Sedgemoor fell again last month according to the latest employment figures.
In October the number of JSA claimants in the Sedgemoor area came down by 3.1%, slightly less than the 3.6% drop for Somerset as a whole.
Sue Kessell from Job Centre Plus told the Mercury that there is a significant fall in the number of people on JSA for six months or more.
She said: “There is a big demand for people to fill jobs in admin and security with EDF as the Hinkley Point C project begins and this is only like to increase and expand to more careers sectors next year.
“As Hinkley takes off there will be huge opportunities in the area.”
She added that Job Centre Plus was helping to fill these new jobs by running pre-employment workshops to train people up for the specific careers on offer to local people at Hinkley.
