A FORMER Bridgwater College student has been awarded the University of the West of England’s Rod Coleman Memorial Bursary.
Elvelisa Jeronimo, from Bridgwater, who studied Access to Higher Education Combined Studies, is now at UWE studying Urban Planning, and was nominated for the award by her tutor Susanne Williams.
Elvelisa hopes to use her qualifications to return to her home country of East Timor and help contribute to its reconstruction.
The bursary is awarded to UWE students who have overcome barriers to progress to higher education, and who have been supportive to other learners facing challenges.
Susanne said: “Lisa has shown tremendous determination and tenacity.”
Elvelisa said: “The bursary will make a big difference to me, because I can start the course not feeling quite so worried about everything.”
