A BRIDGWATER family has managed to combine cream teas and beards to raise funds for a local premature baby charity.

Laura Cross hosted a popup tea party at Cornhill Emporium on Saturday while at the same time Laura’s son, Lyle Durrant underwent a sponsored beard shave to raise money for the Cots for Tots unit at St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol.

The proceeds from the tea party as well as a raffle that was held managed to raise £235 for the charity with the sponors from Lylle’s beard shave still be totalled.

Laura said: “Everybody loved the cream teas and thought it was a lovely idea and said we should do it more often.

“We were slightly disappointed with the turnout but the tea room nextdoor, which is usually busy at that time, said they were quiet too, so I think it was just a quiet day all round really.

“However we were still pleased to raise that amount of money on the day and we still have the sponsorship money to come through as well.”

Lylle underwent the drastic shave at the Gentleman’s Room barber shop where a cut-throat razor was used to remove a year’s worth of facial hair.

Speaking about Lylle, Laura said: “I think he was a bit shocked afterwards.

“He was a bit worried in case his three-year-old son might get a bit of a shock too but he was fine with it.”

“He says that he’s going to grow it back as soon as he can though.”
