ORGANISERS of Bridgwater Flower Show say the standard of entries at this year’s show was “extremely high”.

Mayor and Mayoress Steve and Stella Austen opened the show at the town hall on Friday and returned on Saturday to present cups and trophies to the winners.

The event, which attracted 300 visitors, was sponsored by local businesses and also benefited from a £600 contribution from Bridgwater Town Council.

Cllr Austen said: “We were pleased to be asked to both sponsor a couple of the categories and to open the flower show and present the winners with their cups and shields this year; it is a magnificent event by local residents.

“The colours of the flowers and the size and quality of the vegetables along with the photographs, paintings and arts and crafts are inspiring. However there is always room for a few more entrants and hopefully the show will inspire other people to have a go.”

Results will be in next week’s Mercury.
