A RESTAURANT near North Petherton is celebrating its latest success . . . scooping a coveted Gold Taste of the West Award.

Clavelshay Barn Restaurant is “delighted” to have secured a three-star rating with the Sustainable Restaurant Association – the only restaurant to do so in Somerset.

Phil Verden, chef at Clavelshay Barn, said: “I’m delighted and particularly proud of the Taste of the West Award as it demonstrates our commitment to using the best local produce.

“We’re lucky to live in a beautiful part of the country where we have fantastic growers and producers all around us.”

“We buy organic, free-range chicken from Stream Farm, Broomfield, which is a couple of miles away, and all our vegetables are fresh and local.

“All dishes are made on site, as is our bread, baked daily, and even the water on the tables comes from the farm’s spring.

“For a chef this is an exciting place to work.”

Sue Milverton, who runs the restaurant on her family’s farm, said: “Clavelshay Barn is a finalist in the Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards 2014, so we have our fingers crossed because these awards are a lovely pat on the back for our staff, suppliers and supporters.”
