Abseil raises over £13,000

First published in News

MORE than £13,000 was raised when about 100 people abseiled down County Hall, Taunton, earlier this year.

The cash will be split between Somerset Community Foundation, which helps victims of the Somerset Levels floods, and Somerset County Council’s chairman’s charities the National Autistic Society and Somerset Trust for Arts and Recreation, which helps disadvantaged children.

The next chairman’s charity event is a fire walk at the Wyvern Club, Taunton, on Thursday, November 6.

I don't understand why they didn't use the photo of the actual event from when they published it in April. Oh wait... it's because they're lazy, incompetent and only bothered about adverts.

This amount of cash is dwarfed by the amount ‘raised’ by Somerset County Council’s former Chief Executive Officer, Sheila Wheeler after she dramatically ‘abseiled’ down and out of County Hall earlier this year.

Let’s not forget Mrs Wheeler left the council 'by mutual consent' in February this year, after being absent from her desk, on full pay, since mid-December.

She ‘earned’ £20,000 during her time off, and was paid three months wages in lieu of notice - about £40,000.

Additionally, Somerset County Council later revealed that they had paid out £55,000 in legal costs to finalise the departure of former Chief Executive Officer
