RESIDENTS will be able to enjoy speedier surfing after a £340,000 investment to deliver superfast broadband to Sedgemoor was agreed by the district council.
Councillors voted to support a regional project which will assist the delivery of high-speed internet to rural areas at their meeting last week.
The investment will go towards the Connecting Devon and Somerset project, which is rolling out fibre-optic broadband to rural communities across the two counties, aiming to deliver 90% superfast broadband coverage by the end of 2016.
The contribution is being made alongside other Somerset district councils and the County Council in response to the government releasing an additional £22.75million to the Connecting Devon and Somerset project.
By 2017, it is estimated that the additional funding from Sedgemoor could deliver superfast broadband to 3,273 additional homes.
