A SPECIALIST rescue team from Bridgwater was called out to Stoke St Michael in the early hours of this morning after a young man fell 60ft into a quarry.

Sedgemoor crews assisted two fire engines from Shepton Mallet to the scene of the incident 30 miles away at Fairy Cave after reports at 4.14am from the ambulance service.

The young man had fallen down an inclined cliff, and was within two metres of the floor base of the quarry.

The rescue team assisted paramedics in moving the casualty from the quarry to the ambulance after he had been stabilised, and was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
