Whilst we all appreciate the Struggle that the " Tolpuddle Martyres " faced
In the time of the Industrial Revolution.!!
But for the Modern Unions to take their plight, as being the same as the
workers then, is stretching the Point somewhat.
What the Trade Unions, need to realise is that Businesses both large and Small have to operate within a Global environment, and for the Unions to Con their Members into coming out on strike, when all that can do is effect the Companies ability to be competative, in the Market Place.
Most Union Shop Stewards, and Union Bosses, have only their own interests @ heart, whilst ensuring that their Salaries paid for by the Union Subscriptions and Labour Party Levies, secures their well being and Secure Jobs.

Ps. I saw how Unions Acted @ British Cellophane in the 70 's and 80's, in their opposition to a firm that employed 2500-3000 Workers, the Shop Stewards and Militant Workers, were for ever trying to bring the Casting and Coating Shift Workers out on Strike and along with them every other Union Member, as you had to walk, whether the dispute had any bearing on your Work, it's called Solidarity, or Black listed, if you did'nt.

Dear Old Blue Owl here we go again you must take your Tory blinkers off from time to time. The Labour and Trade Union movement over the years have continued to improve the lot of the working man and woman. From paid holiday entitled to the maximum working week; maternity and paternity pay; the minimum wage (OK it should be a living wage), flexible working for mothers returning to work; rights against unfair dismissal. These basic rights have only been achieved through continuing aggiatation and trade union activity whilst they need protecting. If the Trade Unions stand still these rights will soon be eroded and frankly your attitude of kow towing to the bosses will soon return us to the Victorian sweat shops in fact the increasing number of zero hours contracts is already beginning to move us that way.

Dear Bridgy Old Boy, whilst I realise as to where your Political Alliances Lie, I do not need your Patronising Rhetoric, I as you are entitled to my opinion.
So please, keep your post, to the Point, if I want to Challenge Cllr Smedley, in Debate, I will. If the Unions were not Halted under Margaret Thatcher, then the Country would be in a worse state than we are now, despite the Last Labour Governments, complete mishandling of the Economy, for the Years they were in Power in Downing St.

Thatcher deregulated the banks, that is the main reason we are in a mess.Coalition government policies and propaganda about who is to blame have made things worse.

And what role did The Labour Government Play in this ?????
Blair, Brown, (prudence Chancellor) ??!! Prescott, then Balls up, and Ed Miliband, even your Union Paymasters who fund your Labour Party Coffers, are backing away, thus formulating their own stratagem in their attempt to Bring our Country to its Knees, as it did almost in the 6o's
Miliband, could not fight his way out of a Wet Paper Bag, at least
David Miliband, would have been a worthy Opposition challenge @ the next Election.
If your Wonderful Labour Gov, had not Squandered the Wealth that it inherited, with the Countries Gold reserves, when they came to Power, it would not have taken almost 4 years to claw back and recreate a Balance in the Exchequer, we are not there yet, as the DEBT was enormous !!

Firstly I am not a member, and never have been, of a political party.I find them and most politicians to be untrustworthy. Before you accuse me of not voting I always vote at elections.Secondly my comment was about Margaret Thatcher and not the rubbish you talked about above.Thirdly in 2007/8 the banks bankrupted themselves and thus bankrupted the country, the start of this was Thatcher deregulating the banks.Your inability to face the facts and talk about them without blaming people you disagree with is typical of local and national politicians. You cannot spin or bluster your way out of this, the banks are regularly fined, not only in this country but all over the world.Anybody who trusts or supports the banks as they are currently set up, such as the Tories, are in my view completely untrustworthy. If you reply to this try sticking to the subject and not a lot of Tory propaganda and stop talking about my Labour party, you know nothing of my politics and would not understand them if you did.

Dear Dazzling Dave,

You never mention the billions that went up in smoke in 1992 due to the (Tory) Norman Lamont's handling of the ERM balls up or Thatchers de-regulation of the banking system. More recently you haven't mentioned the billions that British taxpayers have lost due to the incompetent flotation of the Royal Mail. You haven't mentioned quite a lot have you?
