A GROUP of daring volunteers are raising money for people whose homes have been devastated by the floods by jumping 15,000ft from a plane.

The group of about 20 people, made up of volunteers from FLAG and Somerset Emergency Volunteers, will be taking the dive on July 3 at Dunkeswell Aerodrome near Honiton.

Dawn Hackney, a volunteer from Taunton, has been helping families at Moorland since the flooding hit.

She said: “I've been going to help on my days off. If I can raise some funds to help those families, I will.

“Someone said 'let's do a FLAG skydive, so we thought that was a nice idea to raise money.

“The money will help some 30 homes which have either had insurance rejected or no insurance. It will pay for plasterboard and other materials to rebuild. We're also helping with the gardens too, as many insurance policies don't cover the gardens.”

The money will be distributed by the South Somerset Association for Voluntary and Community Action (SSVCA).

Dawn, 44, added: “People are so grateful for the help. It's not like helping strangers it's like helping our flood family, victims and volunteers. It's so rewarding.

“We'll be decorating after the builders have done what they need to do “We've had grants from the council and SSVCA charity as a project grant.”

Another fundraiser, an auction, will be held on June 14 at Taunton Rugby Club from 7.30pm.

While there are already a number of items for auction, to donate more, contact Dawn on 07522692390.
