MEETINGS which provided information and advice for flood-hit residents have ceased due to falling attendance.

After more than three months of providing information from a number of agencies, the regular Canalside flood meetings have come to an end.

When the meetings at the venue near Bridgwater began in February they attracted well over 100 people looking for support following the devastating winter floods.

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said the number of people attending has dropped, adding: “The most recent meeting on May 21 attracted just over a dozen people and it was agreed the meetings would stop, on the understanding they could be restarted if needed.”

Cllr John Osman, Leader of Somerset County Council, said: “These meetings met a valuable need during the emergency and early stages of recovery, and my thanks go to all the agencies which have had a presence there.

“The help and support is still very much available and will continue to be so, but in light of the falling numbers now feels like the right time to bring these events to an end.”
