A LUCKY Haygrove student was almost lost for words when she had the chance to present the evening weather report for BBC Somerset.

Its regional broadcast co-ordinator Matthew Pick chose Francesca Smith on a visit to the BBC Points West studios as part of the annual BBC school report day.

Francesca said: “At first I didn’t believe what they were asking me but when it had sunk in I was really excited about being the weather girl for the evening show.

“It was an amazing experience and it seemed to go pretty well despite my nerves. Actually, it’s a dream come true – I’ve always wanted to be a weather girl.”

The BBC team had approached Haygrove School to collaborate on a special broadcast which included the screening of a film the students had prepared on both the lunchtime and the evening news.

The students’ school report film included reports from novice roving reporters Ella Nash, Jade Hooper and Daisy Sellick.

BBC Somerset DJ Matt Faulkner interviewed Haygrove student Ben Marchent-Saunders on his drive-time show.
