PUPILS at North Newton Primary School have celebrated winning a school challenge with a cycle-themed circus event.
The school won the Cycle Circus Day for their work during National Walk to School Month in October.
As a result, the children got to play with 70 wacky wheeled items this month.
David Gliddon, head teacher at North Newton School, said: “The cycle-themed circus event was a great reward for all the children’s extra walking, scooting and cycling to school as part of the Bridgwater Way project.
“They had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the weird and wonderful bikes and machines that were brought along to the school.”
The Bridgwater Way organised a ‘Schools Challenge’, in which pupils from ten participating schools were encouraged to walk, cycle or scoot to school for as many minutes as they could muster during the month.
In total the schools racked up 4,205 miles. North Newton Primary Schools’ 90 pupils contributed 885 of those miles and were the clear winner of the challenge.
Cllr Harvey Siggs, member for Highways and Transport, said: “This event was such a fun reward for the great effort the school made.
“It’s important pupils incorporate active travel into their daily routine as these positive behaviours will help children become healthier, and in turn become healthier adults.”
