A WOMAN required stitches after a man punched her in the face and stole her bag on Elmwood Avenue in Bridgwater.

At 2am on Friday, April 18, a 45-year-old woman was walking along the Avenue when a man attempted to steal her bag.

She struggled with the man who then punched her in the face and ran off.

The victim received injuries to her mouth which required stitches as well as further cuts to her left hip during the incident.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. The man has been released on police bail until April 29 pending further inquiries.
