A spokesperson from the fire service said: "Two fire appliances from Bridgwater were mobilised following multiple calls to a Range Rover, towing a caravan, that was on fire.

"Shortly after arriving crews increased the initial attendance by 4 further fire appliances, from Bridgwater, Taunton and Burnham, for extra water.

"Crews attended and fought the fire from both carriageways, so Police closed that section of the motorway to all traffic, until the incident was complete.

"Due to the dual fuel aspect of the Range Rover, the fire was eventually brought under control at 10.45am.

"Crews used 2 main jets, 1 hose reel jet and 2 breathing apparatus to extinguish it and confirmed it had started accidentally.

"No persons were involved or injured and duty of care was left with the owner and Police Highways."

THE incident has led to the adjournment of the conclusion to an inquest into the deaths of seven people in a crash on the M5 in November 2011.

West Somerset Coroner Michael Rose was due to give his conclusions in Taunton's Shire Hall at noon today.

But he has put that back to 2pm as several people were delayed by traffic tailbacks.

A spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We have had six appliances there at one stage because it was a dual fuel Range Rover. We needed to have a lot of water to put it out.

“We are down to the hot spots on the Range Rover now so we should be able to move it fairly soon."

THE M5 is closed both ways with stationary traffic after a car has burst into flames between junctions 24 and 25 .

Visibility across the road is low due to the smoke. The car is on the southbound carriageway but the road is closed both ways while fire is dealt with.
