CANNINGTON Parish Council have donated a cheque for £1,200 to a church to help fund youth projects in the area.

The grant was made to Cannington United Reformed Church for its youth club, which runs on a Tuesday evening for school years six to eight and on a Wednesday evening for school years nine plus.

Chairman of Cannington Parish Council, Colin Allen, presented the cheque to Rachel Leach, the youth work team leader at the Parish Council’s monthly meeting.

He said: “The church plans to put a programme together that will allow young people to explore new opportunities both within the village and beyond.

“The youth club has previously been funded solely by the church.”

Cannington Parish Council also supports a youth provision in Cannington Village Hall on Monday evenings from 6.45pm to 8.45pm, which is operated by Somerset Rural Youth Group.
