THE streets of Bridgwater will be neon-lit by cyclists as they ride through the town this month.

The Neon Bike Ride will see 50 people cycle through residential and commuter routes through the down while wearing bright reflective clothing.

Cyclists will also be painting themselves in neon face paint and attaching glow sticks on their bikes and covering the bikes with lights.

The ride is being run by the Bridgwater Way, a £4 million project to provide better walking and cycling routes for the area, and they are looking for cyclists for the ride.

With only 50 places available, people need to sign up now to take part, although you can always cheer on the cyclists at the start and finish point at Blake Statue.

Cllr Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “This is a fun and exciting way to show how being well lit, well trained and cycling in groups can significantly increase safety.

“Group cycling is fun and healthy and The Bridgwater Way is helping people get back into the spirit of cycling and being active through a variety of interventions.”

The route starts at Blake Statue, goes around Showground Roundabout, up through Hamp, up by the Clink and back to the Blake Statue.

The ride takes place on March 28 from 6pm to 7pm.

To take part in the event, sign up at thebridgwaterway.co.uk/event/neon-bike-ride Riders will need to be at least 18 years old with experience of cycling in a group environment, being both competent and confident cycling close together in the dark.
