FOUR heavy duty Dutch pumps which have been used to clear flood water from the Somerset Levels are to be switched off and returned to Holland.

The Environment Agency says the pumps, which have been running at Huntworth for weeks, are no longer deemed necessary.

Eight pumps continue to work at Dunball and Beer Wall, as ‘considerable concerns’ remain about huge volumes of water near Langport, Northmoor and around the A361.

The pumping operation has been helped by recent good weather, but a lot of water remains on fields across the Levels.

A spokesman for the EA confirmed the pumping operation looks set to continue through the rest of March and into early April.
