A FILM-loving teen from Bridgwater has interviewed the stars of The Book Thief for a new education charity.

Molly Harding, 17, who attends Bridgwater College met Emily Watson (War Horse and Anna Karenina) and director Brian Percival (Downtown Abbey) at the film’s press junket in London’s West End.

As a member of her college’s film club, A-Level student Molly was given the opportunity through her role as a reporter on the Into Film Talent Development programme.

The programme allows children and young people to gain exclusive access to the film industry and the career opportunities that are available.

Molly said: “The experience was quite surreal really. I felt quite at ease with the director. When you’re sat down it’s strange because they’re just people really, but then I’ve seen them in this big explosive film so it was a really, really good experience.”

The Book Thief, based on Markus Zusak’s international bestseller, tells the tale of a young girl that is sent to live with a foster family in World War II Germany.

Director, Brian Percival spoke to Molly about the most interesting ideas the film explores. He said: “It lets you see the world in a different way. You can see this enlightenment washing over this young 12–year-old Liesel... It’s Lisel’s story that we follow.”

Actress Emily Watson who plays Rosa Hubermann told the teenager about some of the filmmaking secrets of capturing her role. She said: “I had a lot of fun! I carried on eating, I wore clothes that were very unflattering and I had my greasy hair scrapped back off my face… I tried to make her as horrible as possible!”
