A CHRISTMAS tree will take pride of place outside in Bridgwater’s Cornhill this year – after councillors refused to give in to “mindless vandals”.

Last year the tree was placed inside Prezzo, rather than its usual place on the pavement outside, to avoid it being the target of repeated vandalism.

But at a meeting yesterday (Wednesday), town councillors voted to have the tree displayed in its original place once more.

Cllr Alex Glassford said: “It's sad there's no Christmas tree outside as it’s a nice thing to see. Other towns manage it and I don't think we should give in to vandals.”

Cllr Graham Granter added: “If we gave in to mindless vandals we'd never have anything in the town. I'd like to give it a go for a year.”

WHAT do you think? Should the town not have a Christmas tree for fear of it being vandalised? Or should we not let a few people on the naughty list ruin the town’s festive cheer?
