A TEENAGER is jetting off to Ghana to undertake volunteer work in a school.
Ruby Wilson, 18, a former Bridgwater College student, is hoping her trip will give her valuable experience in her chosen career of health and childcare.
Ruby, who lives in Broomfield and works as a chef at The Pines Cafe near Spaxton, will be working with global volunteering organisation Projects Abroad.
She said: “I was looking online for volunteering abroad and found Projects Abroad. I went to a meeting in London for more information and a few weeks later got an email saying I was selected.
“I have been a chef for two and half years and I wanted a change. This is a big challenge for me personally. I really hope my trip is a big success.”
Ruby has applied to study health and social care at Bristol College and Exeter College and she's hoping her experience helping children in Ghana will help her applications.
Peter Slowe, director of Projects Abroad, said: “We are really pleased Ruby is doing this. Ghana destination are looking forward very much to meeting her - and they definitely want her to bring some pictures of Bridgwater with her.”
