COMMUNITY groups, residents, landowners and carnival clubs are being asked to have their say on a master plan to regenerate part of Bridgwater.

A six-week consultation begins tomorrow (January 21) on a blueprint by Sedgemoor District Council for land to the east of the A38.

The blueprint includes land between the railway line and homes along Bristol Road, as well as the former cattle market site, playing pitches, Town Council and Carnival Clubs land and other private parcels of land. It runs right up to the Crypton site, bordering the Morrisons distribution site.

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said the land is hoped to be developed for a mix of uses, including houses, business, leisure, education and much improved facilities for Carnival Clubs.

The spokesman added: “Other significant issues such as access to the area need to be addressed and it is hoped that a comprehensive traffic solution will have other positive impacts for the town, in particular on the A38.

“The consultation will be with directly affected and interested landowners and other users such as the Allotment Society, residents on Bristol Road, Bath Road and Union Street, Carnival Committee and clubs, Somerset County Council, Environment Agency and more.

“Responses are also welcomed from members of the community.”

Plans by Exeter-based developer, The Housing Guild, for 200 homes to be created on the former Bridgwater Cattle Market site were granted planning permission in December.

The blueprint document, 'East of the A38, Bristol Road, Bridgwater' and a questionnaire can be viewed at www.sedgemoor.gov.uk/planningpolicy. The consultation will run from January 21 to March 4, 2014.
