YEAR Seven students at Haygrove School were buzzing with excitement during the final round of their annual Spelling Bee contest.
Three finalists were left after the other Year Seven contestants were eliminated in two earlier rounds of the competition. To take part in the Spelling Bee, contestants needed to have already beaten their tutor group classmates in the qualifying rounds.
Emily May, Dan Green and Eryn Thomas had to tackle words like ‘onomatopoeia’ and ‘environment’, but the overall winner was decided in a nerve-shattering tie break between Dan and Eryn and the word they had to spell was ‘reservoir’.
Congratulations to Dan who claimed the winners spot and was awarded with a Spelling Bee trophy and an Oxford English Dictionary, presented by Librarian Petra Wheeler and Head of English, Matt Reid.
