Grants up for grabs to back healthy eating

INITIATIVES boosting healthy eating and physical activity across the Sedgemoor district have one month to apply for financial support.

Over £40,000 of grant funding is up for grabs from Sedgemoor District Council though its Community Health Fund and Small Grants Scheme, for a host of pro-health and community projects to potentially benefit.

From December 17, healthy schemes can apply for up to £1,000 of funding per project or activity, with a total £7,000 on offer.

Physical activity, healthy eating and weight management projects, classes or activities are most likely to be successful.

Submissions are welcomed from all sections of the community, from charities, churches, and after-school clubs, to leisure centres, activity clubs and even workplaces.

The window for applications to Sedgemoor District Council opens today (Tuesday) December 17 until 5pm on January 17.

A further £36,000 is available through Sedgemoor District Council’s Small Grants Scheme, with up to £500 for individuals, or £2,500 for projects, on offer.

The first round of Small Grants Scheme applications closes at 5pm on January 10. Projects missing the deadline will have a second chance to apply before March 7.

SDC recommends applications are made as soon as possible.

Rob Semple, SDC’s community development project officer, said: ‘The Community Health Fund and Small Grants Scheme are a great opportunity for a variety of groups and organisations to complete projects they may not otherwise be able to deliver.

“We hope this funding can make a real difference to Sedgemoor communities.”
