BRIDGWATER College student Sam Kelly, a first year apprentice working with Rolls-Royce Aerospace, received a highly commended award at the prestigious EEF Engineering Manufacturers Awards Ceremony.
Sam’s work has been placed proudly on display within the college’s Energy Skills Engineering Centre to inspire other students to produce equally high standards of work.
Sam, 19, said: “This award means a lot to me as I worked hard and to the best of my ability throughout the first year of my apprenticeship and helped out others who were struggling.
“The work I carried out under the first year of my apprenticeship contributed a lot towards me achieving this award.
“The things that stood out to the judges were my machining work pieces, including my steam engine, beam engine and anvil.”
Paul Goss, section leader for engineering said: “The staff within the engineering team recognised Sam’s potential and ambition.
“He made the most of the opportunities given to him and pushed himself to create some truly outstanding work. Sam thoroughly deserves this recognition.”
