Chilton Trinity student dreams of rugby stardom
A CHILTON Trinity student is dreaming of rugby stardom after being elevated to captain of the district team.
At 6ft 3ins-tall, Sam Bate is only 14 but is already impressing coaches across the area.
Now he has made his debut as captain of the Sedgemoor Buccaneers Under 15 team.
Sam is also impressing at school, being made an 'Ambassador' to show younger children around the award-winning building.
The Year 10 student first made an impression as a nine year old with Bridgwater Albion, where his adult coach complained that his tackling was harder than any child of the same age he had experienced.
Sam said: “This school has helped me to go for my dreams in rugby. I have been captain for our school team as well as Bridgwater.
“My teachers have encouraged me and have made me feel like I can do challenging things. When we do something good we always get praised for it.
“When I told my mum I had been selected as the captain she cried. I am so excited to be the captain.”
