Bridgwater businessmen visit China to boost trade links
MEMBERS of the Bridgwater business community are boosting trade links with China during a visit to the Shangdong province.
Steve Leahy, chairman of the Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce, and Darren Horne, chamber committee member, are in China with other representatives of Bridgwater businesses in a trip which aims to “create real business opportunities by securing friendship agreements”.
Darren, who helped bring about the trip, is a director of The Culture Exhange, which has offices in Bridgwater, Bristol and Beijing.
Two Somerset businesses have completed their first Chinese transactions as a result of the trip.
Steve said: “This opportunity could be potentially huge for Bridgwater and indeed the South-West, as one of the key driving factors of the Chinese business plan is foreign investment.
“With investment already secured from China into large local projects on Bridgwater's door step it now opens the door for smaller companies to tap into the possibility of Chinese investment.”
