Bridgwater Ploughing Match hailed a success
7:00pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
HUNDREDS of people turned out for the 65th Bridgwater Ploughing Match at the weekend.
The weather stayed fine for the annual event at Fishers Farm in Chedzoy, which saw around 80-90 ploughmen, ten pair of horses and approximately five horticultural tractors.
There was also a display from the Sedgemoor Vintage Club, craft and trade stalls and around £240 raised from the day went to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
Organiser Ted Bird told the Mercury: “It was one of the most successful ploughing matches that I have been involved in.
“It was well supported by the ploughmen and the general public so a big thankyou to everyone for making it a success.”
The overall champion was Mike Holloway and the local champion was Graham Henson, from Wellington.
Preparations now turn to next year’s event, which will take place on the third Saturday of September.
