Prayers for Bridgwater firefighter after serious incident
PRAYERS are being said for a popular firefighter and rugby stalwart who has been left seriously injured following an accident in Devon.
Father-of-two Matt Brown, 36, suffered serious head injuries and two broken legs in the incident in Plymouth last weekend, and has been in intensive care in Derriford Hospital since then.
He lives in Bridgwater and has two young children.
Matt’s wife, Melissa, from whom he is separated but still good friends, said: “It’s a complete nightmare.
“My phone has been inundated with messages of support.
“Everybody is praying for a miracle of some description.”
Melissa praised the support of the rugby and firefighting communities in particular.
She said: “Burnham and Bridgwater rugby clubs have sent messages of support and the firefighters are offering all the help they can.
“Everybody has been absolutely lovely.”
Messages of support have also been posted on social media.
A tweet from the official North Petherton RFC account said: “We’re sad to report that stalwart no 8 Matt Brown is unwell and in intensive care in hospital. Plenty of #Team|Pethy love going on.”
Meanwhile Matt’s North Petherton team-mate Gavin Hancock tweeted: “Come on Browner! #KeepPraying”.
