Charles Hendry MP praises Sedgemoor's community benefit campaign
FORMER Energy Minister Charles Hendry MP has paid tribute to Sedgemoor’s Community Benefit campaign for those living near Hinkley Point C.
On a visit to the council offices in Bridgwater, Mr Hendry praised the role played by council leader Duncan McGinty and corporate director Bob Brown urging the Government for fair and reasonable benefit for new nuclear communities.
He said: “They went about it in a painstaking way; they talked about the evidence and the contribution the community would have to make over many years.
“This is localism in practice, which is why it is such an important policy change. I am delighted the Government has decided to do it.”
The Council also worked with Bridgwater MP Ian Liddell-Grainger while the Energy Bill was processed.
He said: “I think what Duncan, his councillors, and his entire team of officials, and what’s more the people of Bridgwater, have achieved is magnificent.
“They stood up and said we can deliver this on behalf of Britain PLC and they’ve done it.”
