First Bus drivers trained to help blind passengers
3:30pm Tuesday 13th August 2013 in News
BUS drivers in Bridgwater will be trained to help blind or partially sighted people to use public transport with more confidence.
First Bus plans to start training each of its 17,000 UK drivers next month – they will be encouraged to either verbally guide or physically assist passengers to their seats, and alert them when their stop is approaching.
The company said drivers will also be blindfolded during training, so they can play the role of a blind passenger and better understand their needs.
