A GROUP protecting the South West’s beautiful coast path has secured £250,000 for projects to improve it.

The South West Coast Path Association had organised a Great South West Walk for April 3, 2013, with the aim of raising the amount, but has already achieved the total.

The money, donated by organisations, individuals and the tourism industry, will be spent on over 50 improvement projects around the 630 miles of South West Coast Path.

John Slater, Commercial Partnerships Director for the South West Coast Path Association, said: “All of this combined support means that the Great South West Walk will smash its original target of £250,000 and even more projects to improve the path can be identified.”

The walk will still take place, but the original target has now been increased to £300,000 and the Association is confident it can reach it.
