Litter talk at Westover Green Primary School

PUPILS at Westover Green Primary School enjoyed an eye-opening talk about litter.
Staff from Sedgemoor District Council, along with volunteers from Bridgwater Against Rubbish Team (BART) and Friends of Browne's Pond, gave an assembly on the problems of litter in Bridgwater.
They discussed the reasons why people drop it, what problems it can cause, how much it costs to clean and why it’s not just a job for the council but for everybody.
The pupils were encouraged to participate in a day of community action around the Victoria Park area where volunteers gathered rubbish and recyclable items from the streets. This assembly followed the school’s ‘eco week’ which included a clean-up day in school.
Rebecca Hawkins, eco co-ordinator, said: “The children enjoyed the assembly and were happy to get involved. They discovered some amazing but also alarming facts about the environment and the amount of rubbish in their local community.
“It has made us all think about where we should put our litter and how it might affect our environment.”
