West Quay wall repairs reach £1.8m West Quay wall repairs reach £1.8m

THE cost of repairs to the River Parrett wall at West Quay in Bridgwater has now reached £1.8million.

As reported, work resumed last Monday to repair damage caused by the collapse of a section of the wall in November, 2011.

The county council said it was initially thoughtthe project would cost £1.4million, but a spokesman said the figure had risen due to leaking sewers, archaeological finds and exceptionally wet weather.

The repairs should now be completed by the end of May, weather permitting.

I wish it was 50m x 25m. More like 25m x 10m.

1.8million is nothing compared to the damage that will be meted out to the ****wits at the council that just created the collosal parking problem in rhode lane by yellow lining one side of the road. well done idiots.

Is that the bit from the junction with Taunton Road where they normally park on both sides ?

Off subject but those yellow lines are brilliant. Now they should do the whole length of Rhode lane. You all have garages so **** well use them

Well , if the residents who live on Rhode Lane and the other roads in the area, cannot park properly. Without causing a collosil nightmare when motorist cannot navigate through the cars parked on bothsides. As they Hav'nt the sense to realise that emergency vehicles are needed to be able to get past the parked Vehicles. I have little or no sympathy. The Firemen will bump a vehicle out of the way, but not the Ambulance Services, or Police, the latter will rightly put a ticket on the car.
Just, Wait and see what Highway matters will be announced by SCC Highways re the so- Called, highway mitigating measures, soon to be announced .

The drivers who park on Rhode lane have total disregard, to any other user of this access road, up to the School, over the last 15 years, it has got worse, my ate lived @ the start of Taunton Rd, I had difficulty even stopping outside his house to pick him up for Skittles on aWednesday. No one will give way, so u end up with cars backing up 4-5 each way, as no-one gives way.....Crazy!!!
Something had to be done, the Ambulances, coud'nt get past even. Thus being delayed on 999 Call Responses.

About time - road is impassable at times. Now perhaps they will do the same around by the Railway Station into Wellington Road.

Absolute nightmare at times with barely a cars width let alone a van / lorry

I cycled down Wellington road on Sunday evening and I had a car behind me and there was not enough room for the car to overtake me and when a taxi came in the other direction I pulled into a small gap and the taxi commented that it was a woman so this should be interesting, there wasn't enough room for a cycle and a car because of the parked cars on both sides of the road, however people have to park somewhere but I'm pretty sure that a Fire engine would have got through without bumping cars and if a Fire engine could of got through then I'm sure anyone of the other emergency services would have.

Wellington Road straight is OK, its the bend coming around into Wellington Road by Byron Wynn.

Twice in the last 2 weeks I have seen the draymen from the brewery have to park up and wheel all the barrels down the road into the Railway Club because they simply cannot get through .

The answer would be to put continuos
White lines on the bend on the side opposit to the Houses, this would allow any size vehicle to traverse this hazard
It is a nightmare, as the drivers of the parked vehicles, seem to care not, as to whether they leave enough room for
Passing vehicles to get past. The problem is there is no provision along the stretch of Road to pullin and give way to opposing onward traffic.

I do believe that they are going to put double yellows there in the near future. A lot of Traffic Regulation Orders went through at the beginning of the year covering a large part of the town, which they seem to be doing bit by bit. The road from Rowcliffes down to the doctors at East Quay will be getting some which thank goodness make driving down there a lot easier for lorries and large vehicles, plus all the ones the new Tesco needs opposite the Enterprise centre.
