WORK to repair the River Parrett wall at West Quay in Bridgwater is due to resume today – after a break of more than two months.

Workers downed tools before Christmas and a Somerset County Council spokesman said: "Work on West Quay was put on hold because of extraordinary high water levels in the River Parrett over the last few months, mainly due to water being pumped off the Somerset Levels into the river.

“We plan to have the team and machinery back on site on Monday and the work will be completed by the end of May."

A major section of the wall collapsed on November 4, 2011, the same night as Bridgwater Carnival.
