11:45am Friday 1st March 2013 in News By Nick Wakefield
A SOMERSET man is in a critical condition in hospital after apparently falling from a moving vehicle on an evening out in Exeter.
The 49-year-old man, who was with friends visiting a darts event in the city, suffered serious head injuries in the incident at Westpoint last night (Thursday).
The incident happened around 10.25pm as the man got into what is thought to be a taxi - described as a black medium-sized people carrier with a sliding side door, possibly a Mercedes Vito.
The driver refused to take him and the vehicle made off at speed with the victim still inside and the side door open.
He fell out of the vehicle, sustaining serious head injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he remains in a critical condition.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and for information to help identify the vehicle and driver involved.
The driver is described as a white man, aged 50 to 60, of small to medium build and wearing a black suit type jacket.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 839 of 280213.
