A CARAVAN and camping site with 100 pitches could be built on fields near North Petherton Rugby Club.

A planning application has been submitted to develop fields east of the club and west of Newton Road, between North Petherton and North Newton.

In a supporting statement, Hydrock Consultants say: “The domestic market for camping and caravanning breaks is increasing.

“Many more people in Britain are opting for budget ‘staycations’.

“As a consequence there’s a growing need for more caravan and camping sites.”

Hydrock say demand is not being met locally, adding: “There are currently very few caravan and camping sites between Bridgwater and Taunton.

“A site in this location provides good accessibility to the major towns of Taunton and Bridgwater, a range of local attractions, as well as the Quantock Hills, Exmoor and the Somerset Levels.”

If I remember rightly there used to be a camp site in this location many years ago.

There are two sites already in situ adjacent to the proposed development that are far from utilised. We do not need anymore in this particular area. It will only lead to more traffic congestion on the junction with the A38 especially if the proposed housing development goes ahead in Cliff Road. I hope the Parish Council and SDC are not 'bribed' to allow this development to be approved.

Nice attempt to cash in on caravan based Hinkley C workers? Although after attempting to commute to Hinkley from Petherton via the hell of Taunton Road for a few weeks they may up sticks and move to Cannington!!!

I wonder what the campers will think about a breakers yard being next door to the site burning rubbish with black smelly
smoke going everywhere. Bet they don't have a licence or planning permission for it either!!!!!!
