Bridgwater students up close with the Bloodhound

SCHOOL children from across Bridgwater got a treat - when they were shown a replica of a car designed to reach speeds of up to 1,000mph.
A UK team hopes to smash the world land speed record when it takes the real Bloodhound to the South African desert later this year.
The Bloodhound's three engines produce more than 135,000 horsepower - more than six times the power of all Formula 1 cars on a starting grid.
Last week, children from 11 primary and secondary schools in Somerset were invited along to Bridgwater College, to see a replica of the Bloodhound, meet the team who have been working on the car since 2008, and take part in an “air powered car challenge”.
The visit was funded by EDF Energy.
Lorraine Taplin, the company's local education coordinator, said she hoped it would “inspire tomorrow's scientists and engineers."
