Malcolm Cattle elected Somerset county carnival president
A BRIDGWATER Carnivalite says landing one of the tradition’s most important roles is among the “proudest highlights” of his life in carnival.
Malcolm Cattle, Bridgwater Carnival’s procession officer, has been elected president of the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnivals Association.
His election follows a meeting of representatives from the circuit’s seven processions, stretching from North Petherton to Wells.
Malcolm has been involved in carnival for 50 years and with the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee since 1966.
He joined his first club, Gremlins CC, at 15 and has been vice-president of Wills CC for 24 years.
He said: “Being awarded the presidency of the county carnival circuit is one of the main and proudest highlights of my carnival career.
“Carnival has always been a way of life for me.”
Pete Bastin, president of the Bridgwater Carnival Committee, said: “I am delighted that Malcolm has been awarded this well-deserved accolade.”
