A GOLF development which it is claimed could boost tourism and make people healthier could get the ok tomorrow.

The Mercury has reported on S Notaro Ltd’s proposals for a nine-hole course, driving range, golf shop and cafe at Huntworth near Bridgwater, which form the first phase of a bigger project which could later include an 18-hole course.

A planning officer recommends Sedgemoor District Council’s development control committee approves the first part of the scheme at a meeting tomorrow.

A report for the meeting says: “The development promotes healthy and active living and improves access to green infrastructure.

“The development will be of benefit to the tourism and leisure sector and will have a wider economic benefit.”

As previously reported, the developer believes the golf centre, which could create 19 full-time jobs, could kick-start a separate project for a 100-bedroom hotel and 40 holiday flats, which was approved in 1992 but which is still unfinished.
