The children volunteered their lunchtime to speak to the Ofsted inspectors, who told Head teacher Jason Eveleigh: “The Year Six and School Council children we spoke to are a credit to you and the school.” Photo: Jeff Searle.
A SCHOOL which has been rated by Ofsted as requiring improvement has said the judgment is “fair and accurate.”
Westonzoyland Community Primary School and Pre-School has been told by the school inspection authority it ‘Requires Improvement’ in its overall effectiveness.
Head teacher Jason Eveleigh said: “The judgement is fair and accurate at this moment in time and matches our own self evaluation.”
The report summarised pupils do not make enough progress in writing and mathematics in Years 4 and 5, with targets being set, but not utilised enough.
However, the school was commended on its progress in improving children’s reading ability since September 2012 and most pupils were making good progress and it was beginning to improve.
The report stated: “The new senior leadership team in place from January 1, 2013, is very well placed to bring about rapid improvement in teaching and learning and to support the head teacher who has led and managed the school well through a significant period of change.”
Mr Eveleigh said there had been changes to improve the school but, despite some accelerated progress for pupils, there were still some groups of underachievement over time.
He added: “However, we are now in a very strong position to rapidly improve children’s learning as we now have a very strong teaching team.
“I am delighted 100% of observed teaching was either good or outstanding.”

A friend"s grandchildren live in this village and were experiencing sleeeplessness and anxiety because they heard their parents discussing arsonists living among them, setting innocent victims homes abvlaze in the middle of the night, launching sledgehammer attacks on elderly peoples cars and house and other frightening matters. So DO NOT BLAME the teachers, blame the criminals living in the area.
So yet another black mark for the now notorious village of Westonzoyland. Parents should always remember - there is nothing lacking in the abilities of your children, only the abilities of those who ostensibly "teach" them.

What the hell is this about arsonists and sledgehammer attacks. I have lived in the village for 4 years and still to this day dont understand where this stemed from or witnessed anything
